Here are some lessons before tying Hair Coloring at Home

Do a Strand Test Before Hair Coloring

Divide a small portion of your hair from the rest in an inconspicuous spot. It should be about half the thickness of a pencil or less. Place either plastic wrap or tin foil under it to keep the piece separate from the rest of the hair. A clip can be used to keep the foil or plastic in place. If you have highlights in your hair be sure to include a little of them in this strand. Apply the color to the strand of hair. Five minutes is sufficient time for hair that has been previously colored. If you have not colored your hair before, or are checking the result on new growth, or are attempting to cover gray hair, then you can leave the color on for 45 minutes, or according to the manufacturer’s directions. This test will show you the color your hair will turn.

Perform a Patch Test For Hair Color

A patch test is used to determine if the hair color treatment contains allergens and if it will cause inflammation of the skin. To perform a patch test, prepare a small amount of the color treatment as specified by the directions. Apply the hair treatment to the skin. Hold it in place with an adhesive patch. If the skin under the patch is red and swollen, the result is positive. It possesses allergens and you should not use this product.

Always Watch the clock while coloring hair at home

Check Your Bleach and highlights volume

Before you buy, check out the highlighting kit’s volume number (sometimes located on bottle inside the box). On the side of most bottles, there is a number before the letter V for “Volume,” indicating the potency of the bleach. Just remember that the higher the volume the stronger the bleach.
Protect Yourself: Do not skip the protective application gloves. Remember color treatments involve chemicals, which can burn.

Condition your hair before applying hair color

Apply a deep conditioning three days to a week before coloring. The better conditioned your hair is the easier the color will take. Conditioning also lessens the likeliness of chemical damage to your hair. Lastly, conditioning will also add a healthy shine, making the hair appear more radiant.

Be Comfortable

If you feel uncomfortable with any of these procedure listed, or the procedures involved in applying the color kit, do not hesitate to go to your nearest reputable colorist or stylist and have them apply the color for you.

Hair Highlights

Hair Color HighlightsWhen you add any type of hair color to your hair, it is a very big decision. This is even true when you add hair highlights, which seem like a great option to many people. There are many things that you should think about when choosing hair highlights. Here are some tips.

Tips For Hair Highlights

Try to choose a shade that is somewhat close to your natural hair color.

If you decide to grow your hair highlights out, you don’t want them to be overly noticeable. In some cases, you may need to dye over them to make them blend in when you grow them out and, even then, you will still be able to see a color difference.

Get Your Hair Highlighted by a Professional Expert

Consider having your hair highlights done professionally, especially if you have no experience doing them. Although there are many people who can master the technique, it can take a lot of practice to learn how to do them perfectly.

What type of Color Highlighting you Want?

Determine if you want to highlight your entire head of hair or if you just want to frame the face with highlights. There is not one option that looks better than the other, it really depends on your own personal preference. Also decide which color will look good on your hair eg. blonde color highlights, brown, bright red highlights, etc.

Low Lights for Hair

You may want to consider also adding low lights to your hair, but avoid dying your hair and adding hair highlights. The reason is because this will be very difficult to maintain over time. You will need to dye your hair the base color and then highlight it every time that it begins to grow out.

Hair Highlights at Home or Salon

If you do decide to get highlights, whether you do it at a salon or at home, be sure to avoid dying the lower layers of hair. It tends to look a lot better this way on almost anyone and, ultimately, will require less work when it comes to maintaining your highlights. Besides, you may not even be able to see highlights on the bottom layers of hair.
