Thick Frizzy Curly Hair
Question: Hi guys..i have extremly thick hair which is frizzy and curly also. Any ideas on how to care or manage my thick frizzy and curly hair and how can find a suitable hairstyle for thick curly hair.
Answer by Gari: I have found a few things that have worked for thick, frizzy, curly hair.
1. Don’t colour your hair. It dries it out incredibly and only makes your hair more ssuceptible to being frizzy, coarse, thick, puffy etc. etc.
2. Flat iron. It’s your best friend. NOTE: Always use a pre-flat iron spray to protect your hair. Otherwise, the heat from the flatiron is only damaging your hiar further. If you’d rather curly hair, use a diffuser on your hair dryer. DO NOT BLOW DRY YOUR HAIR. That could be a biggest mistake as it only made it puffy-er. If you must blow dry… use the cold air option. Hot air only fries it.
3. Try BedHead products. They are very helpful, I find. Try the BedHead after party smoothing cream and use a little after you flat iron. Just make sure you comb after you apply it as well, to keep your hair from looking greasy. Also, try the BedHead styling wax to control fly aways.
4. Absolutley do not use a volumizing shampoo (as if that isn’t already clear) Try Garnier Nutrisse Silk & Shine. All natural ingredients and NO chemicals to burn your hair and dry it out ever more than it already is.
5. USE CONDITIONER EVERYTIME YOU SHOWER! Leave it in for 2-3 minutes and then rinse completely. (If needed, use a shampoo for damaged and coloured hair as well. It totally restores it)
*Another awesome shampoo I ran across a few years ago was Paul Mitchell ’super skinny’. It worked fantastically.
Ask a professional hair stylist to give you layers, also. Layered hairstyles takes so much thickness out of your hair. Ask them to use ‘texturizing scissors’. They are made specifically for thick, unruly hair and cut the thickness without affecting the length! SO GREAT.
Keep in mind that having thick hair has a lot more benefits to having thin hair. You are the envy of so many brittle haired individuals! Work your hairstyle!

i have the same hair as mentioned thick frizzy and very curly but what you guys can do is, when you come out of the shower from taking a bath, tie your hair in many braids, atleast four, then go to sleep. when you’ll wake up untie your hair they won’t be puffy and in perfect curls!!!!
try it!

WOAH. Putting in layers is a huge NO NO. I have curly, frizzy hair and my hairstylist told me to do that. WORST MISTAKE. I hope nobody took your advice. For people with curly hair it actually shortens your curls on top making the issue WORSE.

I agree with Jessica – I’ve tried every trick in the book and layering with thinning scissors is the worst thing that can be done to my hair. Every hairdresser wants to take this easy way out to manage my hair. They have talked me into it several times and it NEVER works. The best thing that I find is to let the hair pull down with its own weight and if I want a ‘tossed’ look, I can have the ends slighty cut in
up with a sort of ‘zig zag’ motion, thereby leaving the weight in. This process makes for a smooth wavy look which if cut properly can look quite chic’.

The layers really depend on whether or not you plan on straightening your hair often or if you want the curls. And it really depends on the length of the layers; since I got mine, the curls on top leveled out with the thicker stuff on bottom, but if its too short, I hope you’re into afros… It also makes straightening difficult when the curls are less weighted. But I love my layered hair, it works for me!

Not true…I have thick-curly hair and when my hair stylist cut it into layers, my curls looked waaayyy better. Your stylist needs to know your hair and know the length of layers that are right for you. I wouldn’t suggest thinning your hair though…fullness can be beautiful if your hair looks healthy.
